Widely described as Italy's most demanding trek: from Pedra Longa to Cala Sisine, roadless, with climbing sections and rope abseils.

The Selvaggio Blu is neither a via ferrata nor a conventional hiking trail. It links historic tracks, with climbing moves and double-rope abseils, across terrain with no roads, no springs and no shelters.

For that reason most people go with guides who know the passages and arrange water caches. Anyone attempting it unsupported needs specific navigation and rope experience.

Timings, stages and logistics vary by operator and season: verify them directly with those who work the route before planning.

The essential answers

What is it?
A multi-day trekking route along the Baunei coast, following old shepherds' and charcoal-burners' paths. It is not a continuously waymarked trail.
Where is it?
From Pedra Longa (Baunei) to Cala Sisine, along the front of the Gulf of Orosei.
Why visit?
Because it crosses one of the least accessible coastlines in the western Mediterranean, and because it demands real self-sufficiency: carried or cached water, navigation, technique.
How do you get there?
The route starts at Pedra Longa, reachable by car from Santa Maria Navarrese. Return from Cala Sisine is generally by sea.
When to go?
Spring and autumn. Summer is inadvisable because of heat and the absence of water along the route.
How long does it take?
Several consecutive days, self-supported or guided.
What is nearby?
Pedra Longa, Cala Goloritzé, Cala Sisine, Cala Luna, the Golgo plateau.
What can you combine it with?
With acclimatisation days on the Golgo plateau before departure, and with a boat trip afterwards to see the coast again from the water.

Before and after the trek you need a base close to the start. I Mandorli, at Triei, is a short distance from Pedra Longa and from the harbour at Santa Maria Navarrese.
