First time in Ogliastra: how to set up the trip

A handful of early decisions determine almost everything: where to sleep, how often to move, which days to give to the sea.

· 7 min read

The first decision concerns how many places you sleep in. Distances in Ogliastra look short, but the road network is mountainous: moving every two nights burns half-days. A fixed base just inland lets you reach both the coast and the limestone tacchi without repeating the same roads.

The second concerns access to the coves. Cala Goloritzé and Cala Mariolu, in the Baunei territory, are subject to entry limits, booking and contributions. This has to be settled in advance, not on the day: high-season availability runs out.

On durations: driving times published online for these roads are often optimistic.

The third concerns alternation. Sea days and inland days need different kit and different hours. Alternating them reduces fatigue and spreads the weather risk.
